After hearing Dean’s story about his father, which is very similar to Claire’s current situation, he resolves himself to save her whether she wants him to or not.
This is important.
Because Dean thinks he’s past saving at this point and needs to be destroyed.
He’s even asked Cas, specifically, to be the one to kill him when the time comes. But given what he’s been through with Claire, there is NO WAY that Cas won’t try to save him instead.
Exactly! Ahhh this episode is the start of the end of me! They are showing in every way that Cas is going to be Dean’s hero in all this. Oh my god!

this reminds me of season 2 when john told dean to kill sam and dean later said, ‘if it’s the last thing i do, i’m doing to save you.’ like, this is cas here. he could NEVER kill dean, even after he was freaking PROGRAMMED to. he won’t kill dean, even if he promises. because if it’s the last thing he does, you know he’s going to try to save you.
Cas’ response vaguely reminds me of The End, when future!Dean asks if Cas is coming with, and Cas replies “of course”
