#IN WHICH CLAIRE AND DEAN ARE MIRRORS #AND CAS WILL SAVE THEM BOTH
After hearing Dean’s story about his father, which is very similar to Claire’s current situation, he resolves himself to save her whether she wants him to or not.
This is important.
Because Dean thinks he’s past saving at this point and needs to be destroyed.
He’s even asked Cas, specifically, to be the one to kill him when the time comes. But given what he’s been through with Claire, there is NO WAY that Cas won’t try to save him instead.
Exactly! Ahhh this episode is the start of the end of me! They are showing in every way that Cas is going to be Dean’s hero in all this. Oh my god!
MISHA: I think [Castiel]’s definitely impacted emotionally by Claire and wants—it’s hard to say what the primary motivating forces are with Castiel, but I think one of the overarching ones is not that noble, it’s guilt, he feels bad for having fucked up this girl’s life and wants to help her. But she is now a typical teenager and doesn’t really want anything to do with him. And so that dynamic is really interesting, and I think that it’s something new for Castiel, especially new for him as an angel. He had a little bit of experience with some of that stuff when he was a human, but now having to sort of engage a human being on a very personal level that doesn’t have anything to do with fighting supernatural forces is very new for him. And yet I think his experience as a human does give him much more empathy and make him want to try a lot harder to make it work. So, I love it! I love what we’ve shot so far, um, with that arc, and I hope there’s more of it to come. We’ve done two episodes so far, and I hope we’ll be shooting more.
DT: Well, last we saw her, she was willing to say “take me instead”. Is she very different now, does she have a different idea of Heaven, Hell, religion?
MISHA: Yes, she is very different now. Um, you know, she would be different now, she was—I don’t know how old—I guess I do know how old. She was 10 at the time we shot that first episode. And now it really is 7 years later, we’ve been shooting for 7 years—she’s 7 years older. She’s a 17 year old kid. She’s independent, she’s had a rough go of it, you know, because of me taking her dad, among other things. And, you know, that just makes for a really interesting dynamic.
Rachel: What’s the word on any female characters on Supernatural this season?
While females generally don’t have the longest life span on this CW fan-favorite series, the show is currently casting the role of Claire Novak, a 17-year-old tough, angry teenager described as “punk-rock-pretty.” Claire is sarcastic, smart and defiant because of her rough past: she has bounced from foster home to foster home since the death of her father and the disappearance of her mother (we’re guessing from supernatural forces?). Even though Claire is always in trouble, underneath it all she has a big heart. Let’s hope that heart makes her a survivor!
